Digital Hygiene, Safety and Security

Africa is the youngest continent in the world, with 60% of its population is under 25 years, and for many of them, the internet is the gateway to education, identity, activism, and opportunity. But as millions come online for the first time, too many do so without the tools to protect themselves, their data, or their dignity.

At DIMLIS Africa, we teach digital hygiene and security as essential civic skills. Our programmes cover everything from creating strong passwords and using two-factor authentication to recognising phishing scams, managing app permissions, and adjusting privacy settings.
We show how to use secure messaging apps, avoid information disorder and manipulation, and reduce one’s digital footprint, especially on shared or public devices. Participants also learn to ask bigger questions: Who owns your data? What does informed digital consent look like? How do platforms shape what you see and believe?
We design offline-friendly toolkits, community workshops, and school-based interventions that reach even those without regular internet access, because we know that digital rights should not depend on digital privilege.
In a world of surveillance, scams, and algorithmic manipulation, digital hygiene is a survival skill. And Africa’s future demands a generation that is connected, aware, secure, and unafraid.
