Media, Information, and Digital Literacy

At DIMLIS Africa, we believe media, information, and digital literacy is a civic right, and a foundation for human dignity in the digital age.
While information pollution and disorder flood smartphones and artificial intelligence reshapes public discourse, millions across Africa, especially in rural schools and communities, remain disconnected from the internet and the literacy needed to find their way around the world it’s building.

Our work meets people where they are: in classrooms without Wi-Fi, in communities with radio but no broadband, with teachers and pupils who have never held a tablet. We design offline-first, context-aware training on critical thinking, fact-checking, information ethics, digital hygiene, and AI awareness grounded in the lived realities of African educators and learners.

Inspired by the global frameworks from the International Federation of Library Associations and UNESCO’s Media and Information Literacy (MIL) mandate, DIMLIS Africa turns principles into practice, adapting toolkits, building culturally grounded content, and strengthening information resilience from the bottom up.

Aside from building skills, we are building trust, autonomy, and hope. Because a society that cannot read the world cannot change it. And, true access means the power to think critically, ask hard questions, and participate meaningfully in debating history, curating the present, and reading the tea leaves for an informed future.
